The SOUTHWIRE 64170444 is an 18 AWG, 7-conductor solid copper thermostat wire supplied in a 250-foot roll. It is designed for use in heating and air conditioning control circuits and alarm systems. The conductors are insulated with polypropylene and protected by a brown PVC (polyvinyl chloride) outer jacket. Rated for a maximum of 150 volts and suitable for temperatures up to 140 degrees F, this wire is classified as a Class-2 Power-Limited Circuit Cable. It is UL listed and CSA certified, covering both domestic and Canadian installations.
This thermostat wire is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC applications where a multi-conductor low-voltage control cable is required. The sunlight-resistant jacket makes it appropriate for both indoor and outdoor runs, including exposed exterior routing between equipment. Alarm and security system installers also use this wire for bell and signal circuits. The 250-foot roll format is practical for larger jobs or multiple runs from a single spool.
Designed as a standard 18/7 low-voltage thermostat cable compatible with residential and light commercial heating, cooling, and alarm control systems requiring a Class-2 rated, multi-conductor wire.
Installation of low-voltage thermostat and control wiring is typically performed by licensed HVAC technicians or electricians. Always de-energize the control circuit and disconnect power to the air handler, furnace, or condensing unit before pulling or terminating new wire. Class-2 wiring must be installed in accordance with NEC Article 725 requirements regarding separation from power conductors and permitted wiring methods. Avoid sharp bends or pinching the cable during routing to maintain jacket and insulation integrity.
