The SOUTHWIRE 55274901 is a 250-foot roll of 12/2 AC steel armored cable designed for branch circuit and feeder wiring in residential and commercial electrical installations. The steel armor provides mechanical protection for the THHN-rated copper conductors, which are rated to 90 degrees C. A 16 AWG internal bonding wire and the outer steel armor together form the grounding path, eliminating the need for a separate ground conductor in qualifying installations. Anti-short bushings are included in the roll. The flexible armor design means no couplings or elbows are required at bends, reducing labor time on the job.
This armored cable is suited for branch circuits and feeders in both exposed and concealed work in dry locations. It is a common choice for commercial tenant build-outs, residential rough-in wiring, and retrofit work where conduit installation is impractical or cost-prohibitive. The cable is color-coded with black striping for conductor identification. Licensed electricians handling NEC-compliant installations will find this cable appropriate for a wide range of general-purpose wiring applications in dry environments.
Designed for use in NEC-compliant branch circuit and feeder wiring applications in dry locations, both exposed and concealed. Suitable for residential and commercial installations where AC armored cable is an accepted wiring method.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements and local codes. De-energize the circuit and verify zero voltage before making any terminations. Install anti-short bushings at each cut end before securing conductors to terminals. This cable is rated for dry locations only and must not be used in wet or damp environments.
