The SOUTHWARK METAL 28R_4X12X7 is a center-end sheet metal pipe boot designed to transition a round duct collar into a rectangular register opening. Fabricated from hot dip galvanized steel, this boot delivers corrosion resistance suited for residential and light commercial forced-air duct systems. The boot measures 4 inches by 12 inches at the register face (Size A) and accepts a 7-inch diameter round collar at the center end (Size B). HVAC sheet metal mechanics and duct installers use this fitting to terminate supply or return runs at floor, wall, or ceiling register locations where a round-to-rectangular transition is required.
This pipe boot is used in forced-air HVAC duct systems where a round branch takeoff must terminate at a rectangular register face. The center-end configuration positions the round collar at the center of the boot, making it suitable for straight-run terminations common in residential new construction and retrofit duct work. It is installed by sheet metal mechanics following SMACNA and ACCA duct construction standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard new-construction fitting for residential and light commercial forced-air duct systems requiring a 4 inch by 12 inch register face with a 7-inch diameter center-end round collar.
Installation should be performed by a licensed or qualified HVAC sheet metal mechanic. Shut down the air handling system and verify the system is de-energized before beginning duct work. Secure the boot to the duct collar and register frame using sheet metal screws and seal all joints with UL 181-listed mastic or metal foil tape in accordance with SMACNA duct construction standards. Do not compress or overtighten the collar joint, as this can distort the round opening and reduce airflow.
