The SOUTHWARK METAL 23_20X8 is an offset starting collar designed for rectangular sheet metal trunk duct systems. Fabricated from hot dip galvanized steel, this takeoff collar provides a secure, leak-resistant connection point where a branch duct leaves the main trunk. The offset body pattern allows the branch to exit at an angle from the trunk face, giving installers clearance in tight mechanical spaces. HVAC sheet metal mechanics use this fitting when laying out residential or light commercial forced-air distribution systems that require a clean, rigid starting point at the trunk.
This collar is suited for rectangular trunk duct construction in forced-air heating and cooling systems. It is installed at the starting point of a trunk run, connecting the air handler or furnace plenum discharge to the main supply duct. The 20 x 8 inch face size fits standard trunk sections of that dimension. Applications include new construction ductwork fabrication, duct replacement, and system retrofits where an offset transition is needed to clear framing, beams, or other obstructions in the mechanical chase.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for rectangular sheet metal trunk duct systems built to SMACNA and ACCA standards.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC mechanics or sheet metal workers following SMACNA duct construction standards. Secure all joints with the appropriate sheet metal screws and seal with UL 181-rated mastic or foil tape to meet code requirements and minimize air leakage. Shut down and de-energize the air handling unit before making connections at the plenum or trunk. Do not force the collar onto a mismatched duct section, as distorting the galvanized steel can compromise the seal.
