The SOUTHWARK METAL 160_8IN is an oval sheet metal pipe section used in low-pressure air distribution ductwork for residential and light commercial HVAC systems. Fabricated from hot dip galvanized steel, this pipe measures 8 inches in diameter and 60 inches in length, providing a rigid, corrosion-resistant run section for supply or return trunk lines. The oval profile allows installation in space-constrained framing cavities where round pipe cannot fit. HVAC installers and sheet metal contractors use this pipe as a primary duct run component in forced-air heating and cooling systems. It meets ACCA and SMACNA fabrication and installation standards.
This pipe section is suited for residential forced-air furnace and air handler installations as well as light commercial ducted systems where space above drop ceilings or within floor joists limits clearance. The 8-inch size is commonly used for branch trunk runs serving multiple registers. The 60-inch section length reduces the number of joints required in longer runs, which supports better system efficiency and lower leakage rates when properly sealed.
Designed as an OEM-style oval sheet metal duct pipe compatible with standard 8-inch oval duct fittings, transitions, and takeoffs used in residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC duct systems fabricated to SMACNA and ACCA standards.
Sheet metal duct work is typically installed by licensed HVAC contractors or journeyman sheet metal workers following SMACNA installation guidelines. Power down the air handling system before connecting or modifying duct sections. Seal all joints with UL 181-listed mastic or approved metal foil tape to minimize air leakage. Support hangers should be spaced per SMACNA hanger and support standards for the pipe size and orientation.
