The SIOUX CHIEF 550-MP2 is a galvanized steel PEX bend support elbow, commonly known in the trade as the Sidewinder, designed to guide and protect 1/2 inch PEX tubing through 90-degree directional changes within wall, floor, and ceiling framing cavities. The integrated mounting plate allows for direct fastening to framing members, keeping the bend radius consistent and preventing kinking or abrasion at the turn point. Plumbers and PEX installers rely on this fitting to maintain code-compliant bend support at transition points where tubing changes direction inside a rough-in assembly.
The 550-MP2 is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing rough-in work using 1/2 inch PEX-A, PEX-B, or PEX-C tubing. It is typically installed at stud bends, floor penetrations, and joist transitions where unsupported bends would risk kinking or long-term stress on the tubing. The mounting plate secures directly to wood or engineered lumber framing, making it a standard component in manifold-based home-run and branch-and-tee PEX distribution systems.
Designed as an OEM-style bend support for 1/2 inch PEX tubing used in residential and light commercial plumbing rough-in installations.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified PEX installers during rough-in framing. Shut off the water supply before final tubing connections are made. Fasten the mounting plate securely to framing with appropriate fasteners before seating the PEX tubing into the bend support. Follow local plumbing code and IPC guidelines for PEX support spacing and bend radius requirements.
