The SIMPSON STRONG TIE LSTA18 is an 18-inch, 20-gauge galvanized flat strap used to create strong mechanical connections in light-frame wood construction. It measures 1-1/4 inches wide and 18 inches long, sized to fit flush across standard 2x lumber framing members. The strap accepts 12 10D common hot-dip galvanized nails with a 3-inch center-to-center nail spacing pattern that distributes load evenly and reduces the risk of wood splitting at fastener locations. The hot-dip galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance suited for both interior framing and exposed or treated-lumber environments. Carpenters, framers, and structural contractors install this hardware in compliance with applicable building codes.
The LSTA18 is commonly used at wall plate intersections to tie adjoining framing members, as a ridge tie to connect opposing rafter plates, and in general light-frame applications where a continuous strap connection is required. Its flat profile allows it to sit flush against framing lumber without creating obstructions for sheathing or finish materials. The 1-1/4-inch width keeps the strap within the face of a standard 2x member, making it a practical fit for repetitive framing connections in residential and light commercial construction.
Designed as an OEM-style structural strap for use with standard 2x dimensional lumber framing in residential and light commercial wood-frame construction.
Installation is typically performed by licensed framers or general contractors following applicable local building codes and IRC framing requirements. Before fastening, confirm lumber is properly aligned and the strap is centered across the connection point. Use only the specified 10D common hot-dip galvanized nails to maintain the intended load capacity of the connection. Do not substitute staples or non-galvanized fasteners in corrosive or treated-lumber applications.
