The SIMPSON STRONG-TIE IUS2.56/11.88 is an 18-gauge galvanized steel hybrid I-joist hanger that combines the load-carrying benefits of face mount and top mount hanger designs into a single connector. It is engineered for residential and light commercial wood-frame floor and roof systems where I-joists are the primary structural member. Licensed contractors and structural carpenters install this hanger to transfer joist loads to a bearing member such as a header, beam, or rim board. The Strong-Grip seat, face nail locations positioned for easy tool access, and self-jigging locator tabs make installation faster and more consistent on the job site.
The IUS2.56/11.88 is designed for I-joists with a nominal depth of 11-7/8 inches. It is fully compatible with shallow flange I-joists, making it suitable for a wide range of engineered lumber products used in modern wood-frame construction. When the I-joist includes web stiffeners or is a rectangular section, two 10d x 1-1/2 inch joist nails driven into the optional triangle holes allow the hanger to accommodate those conditions. The locator tabs are non-structural and may be bent back to fine-tune hanger placement during layout.
Designed for use with I-joists measuring 11-7/8 inches in depth, including shallow flange I-joist profiles and I-joists with web stiffeners or rectangular cross-sections when installed with the specified optional nailing pattern.
Installation is typically performed by licensed carpenters or structural framers in accordance with applicable building codes and the manufacturer's published load tables. Confirm joist depth and flange width match hanger specifications before fastening. Use only the fastener type and quantity specified in the load table for the installed condition — substituting fastener sizes or counts affects rated capacity. Do not modify the hanger body by cutting or notching.
