The SIMPSON STRONG TIE CPS4 is a composite standoff post base designed to support 4x4 posts and columns in concrete-anchored applications. It provides a 1-inch standoff that keeps wood off the concrete surface, reducing moisture contact and slowing deterioration at the base of the post. The composite construction resists corrosion, making it suitable for exterior and exposed environments. Installation uses 5/8-inch anchor bolts and 4-10D nails, allowing a straightforward connection sequence without specialty fasteners. This base is used by contractors, framers, and structural trades where post-to-concrete connections must meet building code standoff requirements.
The CPS4 is suited for residential and light commercial construction where 4x4 wood posts or columns are set on concrete slabs, footings, or patios. Typical applications include deck posts, pergola columns, carport uprights, and fence line structures exposed to weather. The standoff design helps comply with IRC and IBC requirements for wood-to-concrete connections by maintaining separation between the end grain of the post and the concrete surface.
Designed as an OEM-style post base for 4x4 nominal lumber posts and columns in concrete-anchored structural applications.
Installation is performed by licensed contractors or qualified framers following local building codes, including applicable IRC or IBC provisions for post base connections. Set and cure the anchor bolt in concrete before attaching the base and post. Ensure the anchor bolt is properly positioned and plumb before the concrete sets, as repositioning after cure is not practical. Fasten the post to the base with the specified 10D nails before applying any load to the column.
