The SIMPSON STRONG TIE ABA44Z is a standoff post base designed to protect wood posts and columns from moisture damage at the base-to-concrete connection. It holds the post 1 inch above the concrete surface, reducing direct contact with water and minimizing rot and decay at the end grain. The base is fabricated from 16 gauge Z-Max galvanized steel, which delivers strong corrosion resistance for outdoor and exposed environments. Installation requires six 10D HDG nails and a 1/2 inch diameter HDG threaded anchor, providing a stable, code-ready mechanical connection between the post and the concrete foundation below.
This standoff post base is suited for residential and light commercial outdoor construction applications including decks, pergolas, carports, fences, and covered patios. It is appropriate for use in treated-lumber environments where elevated corrosion resistance is required. The Z-Max coating is formulated to hold up against the chemicals present in pressure-treated lumber, making this base a practical choice for ground-level and near-grade post installations handled by carpenters, general contractors, and structural trades.
Designed as an OEM-style standoff post base for 4x4 nominal wood posts in outdoor structural applications.
Installation is typically performed by carpenters or general contractors following local building codes and applicable load tables. Set and cure the concrete anchor before attaching the base hardware. Verify anchor placement and embedment depth meet local code requirements before fastening the post. Do not substitute non-HDG fasteners in exterior or treated-lumber applications, as standard zinc fasteners are not compatible with the preservative chemicals in pressure-treated wood.
