The SIMPSON STRONG TIE A23Z is an 18-gauge galvanized steel framing angle designed to reinforce 90-degree connections in wood-frame construction. It resists corrosion through a Z-Max galvanized coating, making it suitable for treated-lumber applications and exterior or damp environments. The angle is sized for 2x3 lumber and accepts standard 10d x 1-1/2 inch hot-dipped galvanized nails for fastening. Licensed contractors, framers, and experienced DIYers install this connector where lateral load transfer and structural rigidity are required at post-to-plate or beam-to-post joints.
The A23Z is used in residential wood-frame construction for applications including wall framing, post bases, and general structural connections requiring a right-angle tie. It is well suited to new construction, renovation framing, and repair work where a compact, right-angle connector is needed to stabilize a 2x3 member. Eight nails total are required per installation: four into the base member and four into the post or vertical member, providing a balanced load path at the joint.
Designed as an OEM-style structural connector for 2x3 dimensional lumber 90-degree framing joints in residential and light commercial wood construction.
Installation is performed by framers, carpenters, or licensed contractors following applicable building code requirements. Fasten with hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel nails only when connecting to treated lumber to prevent accelerated corrosion of the connector. Do not substitute with smooth-shank or electroplated fasteners in treated-lumber applications. Confirm local code requirements for connector placement, nailing schedule, and load ratings before installation.
