The SIMPSON ELECTRIC 01297 is a donut-style current transformer designed for use with AC panel meters in electrical metering applications. It accepts 100 amps AC input and steps it down to a standard 5 amp AC output signal, with a 2 VA burden rating and a wide frequency range of 50 to 400 Hz. Connections are made via screw terminals, making it straightforward to integrate into a panel or switchboard metering setup. Licensed electricians and electrical panel technicians are the primary installers of this type of instrument-class transformer.
This current transformer is used in panel metering installations where an AC ammeter requires a scaled input signal. The donut form factor allows a conductor to pass through the window of the transformer, enabling non-intrusive current sensing in residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical panels. Its wide frequency compatibility makes it suitable for both standard 60 Hz utility power and higher-frequency applications up to 400 Hz, such as those found in marine or aerospace ground-support environments.
Designed for use with AC ammeters requiring a 5 amp secondary input signal. Suitable as a panel meter accessory in systems where a donut current transformer with screw terminal connections is specified.
Installation of current transformers must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize the circuit before threading the primary conductor through the transformer window and making secondary terminal connections. The secondary winding must never be left open-circuited while the primary conductor is energized, as this can produce hazardous voltage. Verify that the ammeter burden does not exceed the 2 VA rating of this transformer before completing the installation.
