The SIGMA 811091008 is a malleable iron galvanized reducing coupling designed to connect pipes of two different diameters in threaded piping systems. Built to a 150 lb pressure rating, this FIG 3121R-style fitting uses female national pipe taper (FNPT) threads on both ends to transition from a 3-inch nominal pipe to a 2-inch nominal pipe. The galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance for use in wet or exposed environments. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in water supply, gas distribution, and general-purpose industrial piping assemblies where a concentric reduction is required.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and commercial piping applications where a threaded inline diameter reduction is needed. Typical install scenarios include water distribution mains, fire protection piping, compressed air lines, and low-pressure gas systems. The FNPT thread pattern on both ends allows direct connection to standard NPT-threaded pipe or fittings without additional adapters. The 3 x 2 inch nominal size makes it a common choice for branch transitions and service line reductions in mechanical rooms and utility spaces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-duty fitting compatible with 3-inch and 2-inch nominal NPT-threaded pipe in 150 lb malleable iron piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC or IPC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before disassembling existing fittings or threading in new connections. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male pipe threads before assembly. Do not overtighten; use a pipe wrench with a backup wrench on adjacent fittings to avoid stressing the pipeline.
