The SIGMA 811089812 is a malleable iron galvanized reducing coupling designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems. Rated at 150 lb, this fitting connects a 2-inch pipe to a 1/2-inch pipe using female NPT (FNPT) threads on both ends. The galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance in wet and moderate-exposure environments. Malleable iron construction delivers reliable strength and thread engagement for standard-pressure service lines. This type of reducing coupling is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters performing line reductions in distribution or branch piping systems.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and light commercial piping applications where a step-down from 2-inch to 1/2-inch nominal pipe is required. Typical uses include water distribution, gas branch lines, and mechanical room piping where galvanized malleable iron fittings are specified. The FNPT end style accepts standard tapered male pipe threads on the mating pipe segments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard 2-inch by 1/2-inch NPT threaded pipe systems using 150 lb class malleable iron fittings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing any existing fitting or making new connections. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads of the mating pipe before assembly. Do not over-torque threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack if overtightened beyond hand-tight plus wrench turns appropriate to the pipe size.
