The SGS 91017 is a downcut spiral router bit machined from solid carbide for use in CNC routing and handheld router applications. The downcut flute geometry directs cutting forces downward into the workpiece, reducing top-surface tearout and splintering — a critical advantage when routing laminates, veneers, and finished composite panels. The bit measures 0.25 inches in cutter diameter with a 1 inch length of cut and a 2.5 inch overall length. The 35-degree helix angle and right-hand cutting direction are matched to the demands of composite plastics and non-ferrous materials. Installation and operation require no pilot bearing. The uncoated solid carbide construction delivers consistent edge geometry and wear resistance across production runs.
This bit is suited for routing composite plastics, laminates, and non-ferrous materials in both production shop and job-site environments. The downcut style is the preferred choice when surface finish on the top face of the workpiece is the priority, such as when routing finished panels, melamine, or fiber-reinforced plastics. The 1.5 inch shank length and 0.25 inch shank diameter fit standard 1/4 inch router collets. Typical users include CNC operators, millwork shops, cabinet fabricators, and trade professionals working with composite or aluminum sheet stock.
Designed for use in 1/4 inch collet routers including CNC spindles and handheld routers. Rated for composite plastics and non-ferrous materials per the manufacturer material application designation. Not intended for ferrous metals or hardened alloys.
Installation is performed by a machinist, CNC operator, or qualified woodworking or fabrication professional. Power down and lock out the router or spindle before inserting or removing the bit. Insert the shank fully into the collet and tighten to the router or spindle manufacturer specified torque. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove the bit from service if chipping or edge rounding is observed.
