The SGS 77278 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this tool delivers extended wear resistance and cutting life. It features a 0.75 inch mill diameter, a 3 inch length of cut, and a 5.25 inch overall length, placing it in the extra long category for deeper reach operations. The 7-flute configuration improves chip load distribution and surface finish quality. A variable helix geometry reduces chatter and vibration during aggressive cuts. A chipbreaker edge promotes efficient chip evacuation in tougher materials.
This end mill is suited for machining a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, and high-temp alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The extra long length of cut makes it a practical choice for deep pocket milling, slotting, and profiling where standard-length tooling cannot reach. It is used in CNC machining centers and manual mills across production shops, tool rooms, and precision job shops.
Part of the SGS Series 77 end mill family. Compatible with standard straight-cylindrical tool holders and collet chucks accepting a 0.75 inch shank diameter. Suitable for workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
This tooling is installed and changed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the correct collet or end mill holder to achieve proper clamping without distorting the shank. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating to ensure concentricity within acceptable tolerance before beginning a cut.
