The SGS 77246 is a 7-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-productivity milling in demanding material groups. With a 0.75-inch mill diameter, a 1.875-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length, this tool delivers aggressive material removal while maintaining dimensional accuracy. The micrograin carbide substrate and titanium nitride (TiN) coating increase surface hardness and wear resistance. A variable helix geometry reduces harmonic vibration during the cut, and the integrated chipbreaker promotes chip evacuation in deep-slot and finishing operations. Right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute direction are standard. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S — covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance on both shank and mill diameter ensures consistent tool holding in collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and hydraulic chucks. It is configured as a single-end, non-center-cutting tool intended for peripheral and slot milling where plunge entry is not required. The regular length classification keeps deflection low in standard-depth applications.
Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by the supplier specification — covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless and heat-resistant steels, non-ferrous materials, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. Fits standard 0.75-inch collet, shrink-fit, hydraulic, or Weldon-flat-capable tool holders accepting a straight cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for tool holding and runout verification. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or removing the tool. Confirm tool holder bore cleanliness and proper retention torque per the tool holder manufacturer specification before initiating a cut. Because this tool is non-center-cutting, do not program axial plunge moves directly into the workpiece without a ramping or helical entry strategy.
