The SGS 77245 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 0.75 inch cutting diameter, a 1.875 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length with a 0.75 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Seven flutes with a variable helix angle of 37 degrees improve chip evacuation and reduce harmonic vibration during interrupted or deep cuts. A titanium nitride (TiN) finish increases surface hardness and wear resistance. The micrograin carbide substrate supports higher feed rates and longer tool life compared to standard carbide grades. This tool is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production environments, and tool rooms.
The SGS 77245 is suited for milling hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant superalloys, and a broad range of engineered materials as indicated by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute, spiral flute design classified under SGS Series 77. The regular-length geometry fits standard tool holders and collet chucks without extended-reach adapters. Typical applications include slotting, peripheral milling, and contouring in both wet and minimum-quantity lubrication setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production end mill for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.75 inch straight-cylindrical shank via collet chuck, end mill holder, or shrink-fit tooling.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle fully stopped and the machine control in a safe state. Seat the shank fully into the tool holder and torque the retention mechanism per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before cutting, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on high-flute-count carbide tools. This tool is not center-cutting — use a pilot hole, ramp entry, or helical interpolation when entering a closed pocket.
