The SGS 77241 is a 7-flute solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing in demanding metal-cutting applications. It features a 5/8 inch diameter, a 2-1/2 inch length of cut, and a 0.0600 inch corner radius that protects the cutting edge and reduces stress concentrations at the base of the cut. The 37-degree high helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation, while the TM coating extends tool life when cutting abrasive and hard workpiece materials. This tool is intended for use in CNC machining centers by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
The SGS 77241 is suited for finishing passes on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials classified under secondary workpiece material code H. Its close pitch, 7-flute geometry is optimized for fine surface finishes at higher feed rates. The long-length configuration with a 4-1/2 inch overall length accommodates deeper pocket work and extended-reach situations where standard-length tools cannot reach. It mounts in standard straight-bore end mill toolholders with a 5/8 inch shank diameter.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium; secondary application covers hard materials. Part of the SGS Series 77C long-length corner radius end mill family.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool-change procedure is followed before loading or unloading the cutter. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout at the cutting edge before beginning a production run, as excess runout will accelerate uneven flute wear on a 7-flute tool.
