The SGS 77209 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in demanding machining applications. Built on the Series 77 platform, this tool features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, 7-flute geometry, and a variable helix design that helps reduce chatter and harmonics during high-speed milling. The TiN (titanium nitride) finish increases surface hardness and extends tool life in abrasive cutting conditions. The micrograin carbide substrate provides a balance of edge sharpness and wear resistance. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop, production, and tool and die environments.
The SGS 77209 is suited for milling a wide range of workpiece materials. The manufacturer material codes indicate compatibility with hardened steels (H), cast irons (K), stainless steels (M), non-ferrous metals (N), steel alloys (P), and superalloys (S). The 1-5/8 inch length of cut and 3-3/4 inch overall length make it well matched to medium-depth slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations in both vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers.
The SGS 77209 is compatible with workpiece materials designated under material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, steel alloys, and superalloys. Designed for use in standard CNC end mill holders or collet chucks accepting a 5/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Use a calibrated tool holder with appropriate h6 bore tolerance to maintain runout specifications. Confirm correct tool stick-out length and validate feeds and speeds against the workpiece material before running the first pass.
