The SGS 77189 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding metalworking applications. Built on the Series 77C platform, it features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 1-1/2 inch length of cut, and a 0.0300 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge and improves surface finish on profiled cuts. The tool carries a TM coating for increased hardness and wear resistance. With 7 flutes in a close-pitch, right-hand spiral configuration and a variable index geometry, it is engineered to minimize chatter and maintain tight tolerances across extended runs. Machinists and CNC operators working in tool and die, aerospace, and precision machining shops are the primary users.
The SGS 77189 is suited for finishing passes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, as well as secondary applications in hard materials. The 7-flute, high-helix design supports chip evacuation in tight-tolerance finishing where surface quality is critical. A 3-1/2 inch overall length and 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard end mill toolholders used on vertical machining centers, horizontals, and CNC mills. It is configured as a single-end, non-centercutting tool, making it appropriate for side milling, peripheral finishing, and contour work rather than plunge cutting.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary capability in hard materials. UNSPSC code 27112803.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine control in a safe state. The straight-cylindrical shank is dimensioned to h6 tolerance and should be seated in a clean, undamaged toolholder collet or chuck to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth. Verify runout with a dial indicator after mounting, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on multi-flute finishing tools. This tool is not centercutting and should not be used for direct plunge entry.
