The SGS 77175 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. Built on the SGS Series 77 platform, it features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 3.25-inch overall length with a 0.5-inch straight cylindrical shank. The tool carries a TiN finish and a variable helix spiral flute geometry with 7 flutes, a combination that reduces chatter, improves chip evacuation, and extends tool life in challenging materials. A chipbreaker is integrated into the flute design. The micrograin carbide grade and h6 tolerance on both the mill and shank diameters confirm tight dimensional control suited for precision work.
The SGS 77175 is intended for milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, structural steels, and superalloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration, making it compatible with standard CNC machining centers and manual milling setups. The regular length designation and straight cylindrical shank suit typical vertical mill and machining center spindle setups where reach extension is not required. This tool is not center-cutting and is not suited for plunge entry.
Designed for use with standard 0.5-inch collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Rated for workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by SGS Series 77 application guidelines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the minimum clamping depth recommended by the holder manufacturer, and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut. Do not use this tool for plunge entry, as it is not center-cutting.
