The SGS 70555 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. It features an AlTiN coating applied over a micrograin carbide substrate, making it suitable for cutting hardened steels, stainless, titanium, high-temperature alloys, and cast irons. The mill diameter is 0.315 inches (8 mm) with a length of cut of 0.9843 inches (25 mm) and a straight cylindrical shank diameter of 0.315 inches (8 mm). It cuts right-hand with a right-hand spiral flute and belongs to the SGS Series 7MS. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop settings.
The SGS 70555 is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are priorities. Its variable index geometry reduces harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts. It is rated for primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The regular-length profile makes it a general-purpose choice for slot milling, peripheral milling, and plunge applications where extended reach is not required.

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the minimum insertion depth recommended by the holder manufacturer, and torque the collet nut or set screw to the toolholder specification. Verify runout at the tip after clamping before beginning a cut.
