The SGS 70484 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for material removal and profiling operations in CNC machining and manual milling applications. Built from micrograin carbide substrate with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. The 5/8 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 2.25 inch length of cut, making it well suited to deep-slot and long-reach finishing passes. Four spiral flutes with a right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction provide efficient chip evacuation. A variable index geometry reduces harmonics during aggressive cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tool in standard straight-shank collet or end mill holders.
The SGS 70484 is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous materials including stainless steel, titanium alloys, cast iron, carbon steels, and high-temperature superalloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. Its long-length classification makes it a practical choice when workpiece geometry or fixture clearance requires extended reach beyond a standard-length tool. The centercutting design allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pilot hole. It is commonly used in aerospace, general machining, and precision die and mold applications where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical.
Designed for use with standard straight-shank collet holders and end mill holders accepting a 5/8 inch shank diameter. Suitable for machining material categories H, K, M, P, and S per SGS Series 63 classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator familiar with proper tool-holding practices. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the minimum recommended insertion depth to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout at the collet face before beginning the operation, as excessive runout will accelerate tool wear and compromise surface finish.
