The SGS 70483 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for demanding material removal in CNC machining and manual milling operations. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 3 inch length of cut, and a 6 inch overall length, making it suited for deep-pocket and extended-reach applications. The four-flute geometry with a 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. An AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and tool life in high-temperature cutting environments. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the hardness and edge retention needed for interrupted cuts and abrasive workpiece materials. This tool is installed and operated by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC programmers working in job shops and production environments.
The SGS 70483 is rated for use across a broad range of workpiece material categories, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The extra-long length type and 3 inch length of cut make it well suited for deep-slot milling, pocketing, and profiling where standard-length end mills cannot reach. The centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional CNC spindle setups.
Rated for workpiece materials in categories H (hardened steels), K (cast irons), M (stainless steels), P (carbon and alloy steels), and S (superalloys and high-temp alloys). Straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with standard 0.5 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or quill is locked before inserting or removing the end mill. Verify that the collet or holder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank, and confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts. Follow the tooling manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for maximum spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut for the specific workpiece material and setup.
