The SGS 70477 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 1-5/8-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length, classifying it as an extra-long series tool. The AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating improves heat resistance and extends tool life in high-speed cutting operations. Four spiral flutes with a 38-degree helix angle and variable index geometry work together to reduce chatter and improve chip evacuation. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals working in CNC or manual milling setups.
The SGS 70477 is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous materials including steel, cast iron, stainless steel, titanium, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The extra-long length of cut makes it well suited for deep-pocket milling, slot milling, and profiling operations where standard-length tooling cannot reach. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks and milling tool holders commonly used in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore ER collet chucks and milling tool holders accepting a 5/16-inch shank diameter. Compatible with CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Suitable for workpiece materials in material groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in a safe state. Ensure the collet or tool holder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Verify runout at the cutting diameter before beginning a production operation. Speeds, feeds, and depth-of-cut parameters should be set according to the machine tool builder specifications and the material being cut.
