The SGS 70454 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding machining environments. Built to Series 7B specifications, it features a 0.375-inch diameter, a 1.75-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length. The four-flute, right-hand spiral design runs at a 45-degree high helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. An AlTiN coating provides thermal and oxidation resistance, extending tool life when cutting hard and abrasive workpiece materials. Micrograin carbide construction delivers the rigidity and edge retention required for precision finishing passes.
This end mill is suited for finishing applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, titanium alloys, and high-temperature superalloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The extra-long length type and single-end configuration make it appropriate for milling deeper pockets and contoured surfaces where extended reach is needed. Variable index geometry helps reduce harmonic vibration during cutting. It is a common choice for aerospace, die and mold, and general precision machining shops running CNC vertical or horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use with CNC machining centers accepting a 0.375-inch straight shank; suitable for finishing operations on workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S as specified by SGS Series 7B classification.
Installation and tool changes should be performed only with the machine spindle fully stopped and control power secured per shop lockout-tagout procedures. Seat the 0.375-inch shank fully in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention device to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use; AlTiN-coated carbide tools should not be used with coolant systems that are incompatible with aluminum-based coatings. A qualified machinist or CNC setup technician should verify speeds, feeds, and depth-of-cut parameters before running the tool in production.
