The SGS 70448 is a 4-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding machining environments. With a 0.25-inch mill diameter, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 4.0-inch overall length, this extra-long tool provides extended reach for deep-cavity and contoured-surface work. The 45-degree high helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlTiN coating delivers thermal resistance and hardness, making this end mill well suited for aggressive cuts in hard or abrasive workpiece materials. It is a single-end, right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool manufactured from micrograin carbide stock.
This end mill is intended for finishing passes on a range of workpiece material categories including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The extra-long configuration and 0.25-inch shank diameter make it appropriate for vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and similar setups where reach into deep pockets, molds, or complex 3D profiles is required. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in job shops, aerospace component production, and precision mold work.
Designed for use in standard 1/4-inch collet or end mill holders on CNC vertical machining centers and manual mills. Compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer for Series 7B tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines for tool holding and runout tolerances. Ensure the collet or end mill holder is clean and free of debris before seating the 0.25-inch shank. Confirm the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Observe the mill diameter tolerance of +0.000 to -0.002 inches and shank tolerance of +0.00000 to -0.00035 inches when qualifying the tool for precision setups.
