The SGS 70447 is a 4-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding machining environments. With a 0.25 inch cutting diameter, a 1.125 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length, this end mill is built for extended-reach applications where standard-length tooling cannot reach. The 45-degree high-helix geometry and AlTiN coating make it well-suited for high-temperature alloys, hardened steels, and other difficult-to-machine materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides wear resistance and edge stability during aggressive finishing passes. Machining professionals and toolroom operators select this tool for precision contouring and 3D profiling work.
The SGS 70447 is intended for finishing operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, high-temperature alloys, and titanium, consistent with the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The long-series design supports deep-pocket and steep-wall contouring on CNC machining centers. The variable index geometry helps reduce harmonic vibration during cutting, improving surface finish and extending tool life. It is run as a single-end tool with right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application tool for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.25 inch straight shank with a shank diameter tolerance of +0.00000 to -0.00035 inches.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or in E-stop before loading or removing tooling. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder that matches the 0.25 inch shank diameter and confirm runout with a dial indicator before production cuts. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the specific workpiece material.
