The SGS 66653 is a taper length drill bit engineered for high-performance metal cutting and universal material applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a Ti-NAMITE-X (TX) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in demanding drilling operations. It features a 135-degree split point for self-centering starts and reduced thrust, a right-hand spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation, and a web-thinned tip to ease penetration. The 7.7 mm diameter and 5-19/32 inch overall length place it in the taper length category, making it suitable for reaching deeper into workpieces than a jobber-length bit. Installed by machinists and maintenance technicians alike, this bit fits standard CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held drill motors with a straight cylindrical shank.
The SGS 66653 is designed for universal material applications including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys. Its Series 142P geometry conforms to DIN 6537 specification, making it a fit for shops that hold DIN-standard tooling. The 8xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio and 76 mm flute length support deep-hole drilling cycles where chip clearance and rigidity are both critical. This bit is appropriate for production machining, tool rooms, and job shops requiring consistent hole-diameter tolerance across multiple operations.
Designed as a DIN 6537 Series 142P taper length drill bit with a straight cylindrical shank, this bit seats in any standard drill chuck or collet system sized for a 7.7 mm shank diameter on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and similar drilling equipment.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle at a complete stop. A licensed machinist or qualified tooling technician should verify chuck or collet runout before securing the bit, as excessive runout accelerates wear and affects hole-diameter tolerance. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm that coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine specification before initiating a cut. Follow applicable OSHA machine-guarding requirements and shop safety protocols during all tooling operations.
