The SGS 66649 is a solid carbide taper length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling across a wide range of materials. Built to DIN 6537 specification, it features a 135-degree split point, web-thinned tip, and a Ti-NAMITE-X (TX) coating that extends tool life in demanding applications. The cylindrical shank measures 25/64 inch in diameter, and the bit delivers an 8xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio, making it well suited for deeper hole depths relative to its size. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and heat management during continuous cutting operations. Machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians rely on this geometry for consistent, accurate hole placement.
The SGS 66649 is designed for universal material application, performing in steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. Its micrograin carbide substrate and spiral flute geometry make it a strong fit for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills where taper length reach is required. The right-hand cut, standard point style, and web-thinned tip reduce thrust force at entry and improve hole quality in both through-hole and blind-hole configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style taper length drill bit for use in standard cylindrical-shank toolholders compatible with a 25/64 inch straight shank. Suitable for CNC and manual machine tool setups specifying DIN 6537 geometry.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and all motion fully stopped. Secure the cylindrical shank in a clean, properly sized collet or drill chuck to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping torque range. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and that system pressure is appropriate for the toolholder before initiating a cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the bit when dimensional tolerance or surface finish degrades.
