The SGS 66617 is a taper length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding machining environments. Built from solid carbide micrograin construction and finished with a TX coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and resistance to heat and wear. It features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry and reduced thrust, minimizing walking on hard or slick surfaces. The 8xD flute-to-diameter ratio allows for deeper penetration relative to diameter. Web thinning further reduces cutting resistance at the tip. This bit is sized at 11/64 inch (0.1614 inch decimal, 4.10 mm) and is installed by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and skilled tradespeople using standard drill presses, CNC machines, or handheld drilling equipment.
The SGS 66617 is suited for universal material applications across metal, alloy, and similar workpiece materials. With a maximum drilling depth of 1.6929 inches (43.00 mm) and a cylindrical shank diameter of 5.99 mm, it fits standard collets and chucks without modification. The right-hand spiral flute evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. This bit conforms to DIN 6537 specification and is classified as a high-performance grade tool appropriate for production and maintenance machining environments.
Rated for universal material applications; fits standard cylindrical-shank collets and chucks accepting a 5.99 mm shank diameter on drill presses, machining centers, and CNC equipment.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with cutting tool safety. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are secured before initiating rotation. When using the coolant-through feature, verify coolant supply lines are properly connected and pressurized per machine manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if damage is detected to prevent workpiece damage or tool failure.
