The SGS 66491 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with Ti-NAMITE-X, it delivers extended tool life and resistance to heat buildup in demanding production environments. The 135-degree split point with web thinning reduces thrust, improves centering, and allows the bit to start without a pilot hole. With an overall length of 4.2126 inches and a flute length of 2.3622 inches, this bit fits standard drill chucks and CNC machining centers alike. It is suited for machinists, toolmakers, and production floor technicians working in metal fabrication, aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing.
This drill bit is classified as screw machine length, meaning it is shorter and more rigid than jobber-length bits, making it ideal for close-tolerance drilling on machine tools, lathes, drill presses, and CNC machining centers. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.3100-inch decimal diameter fits standard collets and drill chucks. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed, deep-hole applications where chip evacuation and thermal management are critical. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 2-margin plus 4-margin geometry provide stability and accuracy across universal workpiece materials including steel, stainless, aluminum, and cast iron.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and CNC toolholding systems accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with universal workpiece materials as designated in the supplier specification. Series 142P per SGS product classification.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with cutting tool setup on machine tools. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is securely clamped in the toolholder before engaging the workpiece. Use appropriate coolant flow rates to take advantage of the coolant-through design and prevent chip packing. Do not exceed the recommended drilling depth of 2.3622 inches without retracting to clear chips.
