Product Description

The SGS 66462 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting and general-purpose drilling applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with Ti-NAMITE-X, this bit delivers extended tool life and resistance to heat and wear. The 135-degree split point with web thinning reduces thrust requirements and improves centering without a pilot hole. At 3.5 inches overall length with a 0.3622 inch (21/64 inches) diameter, it fits compact setups where stub length access is needed. It is sold individually and suits machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators working with tight tolerances.

This drill bit is suited for universal workpiece materials including steel, stainless, aluminum, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys. The screw machine (stub) length format makes it ideal for drill press, turret lathe, and CNC machining center use where rigidity and reduced deflection are priorities. Coolant-through capability allows internal coolant delivery to the cutting zone, extending tool life in production environments. The Series 142P designation places this bit in a high-performance product family built to DIN 6537 specification.

Key Features

  • Micrograin solid carbide construction for high rigidity and wear resistance
  • Ti-NAMITE-X coating reduces friction and extends cutting life
  • 135-degree standard point with web thinning for reduced entry thrust and improved centering
  • Coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery in equipped spindles
  • 4-margin geometry improves hole quality and dimensional accuracy
  • Straight-cylindrical shank with 0.390 inch diameter for standard collet and chuck compatibility

Compatibility

Designed as a screw machine length drill bit conforming to DIN 6537 specification, compatible with standard straight-shank collets, chucks, and toolholders accepting a 0.390 inch shank diameter.

Installation Notes

Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and de-energized before loading or removing the bit from the holder. Verify collet or chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance before production drilling, as excessive runout accelerates carbide wear. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for feed rate and spindle speed when using coolant-through capability.
