The SGS 66456 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in a wide range of materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with Ti-NAMITE-X, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in demanding production environments. The bit measures 7/16 inch (8.60 mm) in diameter with a 135-degree split point and a web-thinned tip that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. Overall length is 3.504 inches (89 mm), making it suited for applications where a compact, rigid tool is required. Machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this type of bit.
This drill bit is designed for screw machine and general CNC drilling operations where tight tolerances and consistent hole quality are required. The straight-cylindrical shank accommodates standard drill chucks and collet holders. With coolant-through capability, it supports high-speed, deep-hole drilling cycles. The universal primary workpiece material designation means it performs across metals, alloys, and engineered materials commonly encountered in production and maintenance settings. It is sold individually and intended for direct spindle use in machine tool applications.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.470-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and screw machines requiring DIN 6537 tooling.
Install in a properly sized drill chuck or collet rated for the 0.470-inch shank diameter and ensure the shank is fully seated before operation. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting tooling. When using coolant-through capability, verify that the machine coolant supply pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the tool diameter before starting a cycle. Do not use this bit in hand-held drill applications; it is intended for rigid machine tool setups only.
