The SGS 66408 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in a wide range of workpiece materials. Featuring a 7/32 inch (0.2188 inches) diameter and a 137-degree split point, this bit delivers accurate hole entry with reduced thrust. The 2-flute regular spiral design and web-thinned geometry promote efficient chip evacuation in short-flute, close-clearance applications. With a straight cylindrical shank and a 2.5984-inch overall length, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC setups. It is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision metalworking trades working in production or maintenance environments.
The SGS 66408 is suited for screw machine, drill press, and CNC machining center applications where stub-length rigidity is required. The short flute length of 0.9449 inches limits deflection in tight setups and thin-section workpieces. The DIN 6537 specification and micrograin carbide substrate support consistent performance across universal workpiece materials including ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Coolant-through capability makes this bit compatible with high-speed production drilling operations where heat management is critical. It is a Series 142P tool sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production cutting tool for use in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and CNC spindles accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 5.9995mm shank diameter range.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel with the machine powered down and all spindle rotation stopped. Secure the straight shank fully within the chuck or collet holder to the specified grip depth before operation. Ensure coolant-through channels are clear and compatible with the machine tool coolant system before engaging high-speed feeds. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and tool manufacturer feed-and-speed recommendations for the workpiece material.
