The SGS 66405 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with Ti-NAMITE-X, this bit delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance in demanding production environments. It measures 11/64 inches (0.1378 inches decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 2.4409 inches and a 135-degree split point for fast, accurate starts with minimal walking. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.2300 inches in diameter. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed machining applications where heat management is critical. This bit is part of SGS Series 142P and is suited for installation by machinists and tooling professionals in CNC and manual drilling setups.
The SGS 66405 is built for screw machine length applications where a shorter, stiffer tool is preferred over jobber-length bits. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and web-thinned point geometry reduce thrust force and chip packing in deep-hole operations. With a universal primary workpiece material rating, this bit performs across steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. It is a strong fit for production shops, job shops, and aerospace or automotive component drilling where tight hole tolerances and consistent performance are required. The 4-margin design improves hole straightness and surface finish.
Designed as a screw machine length carbide drill bit for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with universal workpiece materials as rated by the manufacturer per Series 142P design standards.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians with the machine fully powered down and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the chuck or collet is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Do not exceed the rated maximum drilling depth of 0.7874 inches per pass without retracting to clear chips. When using coolant-through capability, verify that the machine spindle coolant system is properly connected and pressurized before cutting.
