The SGS 57098 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No. 60, measuring 0.0400 inches (1.02 mm) in diameter. It features a 118-degree four-facet point for accurate self-centering entry and a regular spiral flute geometry for efficient chip evacuation. The bit carries an AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A) coating that increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in demanding materials. Overall length is 1.5 inches with a 0.75-inch flute length and a straight cylindrical shank. Built to DIN 338 standards from micrograin carbide, this bit is suited for precision drilling where tight hole tolerances are required.
This drill bit is intended for professionals performing precision hole-making operations in metal fabrication, tooling, mold making, and maintenance machining. The No. 60 wire gauge size is commonly used when drilling pilot holes, clearance holes, or through-holes in hardened steels, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. The AlTiN coating makes it a strong choice for dry or minimal-lubrication cutting environments. Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling professionals. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth before operation. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits before drilling, as small-diameter carbide bits are sensitive to side loading and deflection. Do not use this bit as a pry tool or apply lateral force during drilling, as carbide is brittle and will fracture under bending loads.
