The SGS 56493 is a taper length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding production and machining environments. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a TX coating, it delivers the hardness and wear resistance required for universal material applications. The bit features a 135-degree standard point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. Flute length measures 4-31/64 inches (3.7402 decimal inches) and overall length is 141.99 mm. A cylindrical shank with a 10 mm diameter provides secure chuck retention. This bit is suited for licensed machinists, toolroom professionals, and CNC setup technicians working in metal fabrication, aerospace, or general manufacturing.
The SGS 56493 is designed for taper length drilling applications where extended reach beyond a jobber-length bit is needed without sacrificing rigidity. The 8xD flute-to-diameter ratio suits deep-hole work in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and composites classified as universal material applications. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and thermal management in high-speed or high-feed operations. Right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes consistent chip flow in standard CNC and manual drilling setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes accepting a cylindrical shank drill bit with a 10 mm shank diameter in the Series 142P product family.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are fully stopped and all power is isolated before changing tooling. Confirm chuck or collet runout is within acceptable tolerance before seating the cylindrical shank to prevent premature edge wear. When using coolant-through capability, verify that coolant pressure and flow rate are compatible with the machine spindle before beginning the operation.
