The SGS 56477 is a solid carbide taper length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding applications. Built to DIN 6537 specification, it features a 135-degree split point geometry with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve centering accuracy. The Ti-NAMITE-X (TX) coating provides enhanced wear resistance and heat dissipation, extending tool life in tough materials. Designed for use in CNC machining centers and precision drilling operations, this bit is suited for machinists, toolroom technicians, and production floor professionals requiring tight-tolerance hole quality.
The SGS 56477 is designed for universal material applications, making it appropriate for steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. With a flute-length-to-diameter ratio of 8xD, it handles moderate-depth holes in a single pass without the need for peck drilling in many setups. The spiral flute design promotes efficient chip evacuation, reducing the risk of chip packing in deeper bores. Coolant-through capability allows this bit to be used with through-spindle coolant systems for extended tool life and improved hole finish at higher feed rates.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit drill bit for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turning centers equipped with standard collet or chuck toolholding rated for straight cylindrical shanks at 11/64 inch diameter.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank seating depth in the collet or chuck meets the toolholder manufacturer's minimum engagement requirement. When using through-spindle coolant, verify coolant pressure and flow rate are compatible with the spindle and toolholder assembly before running. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for damage before each use; do not run a chipped or visibly damaged carbide drill at full programmed feeds and speeds.
