The SGS 56446 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in letter size E (0.25 inches / 6.35 mm) designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. It features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry and reduced thrust, a Ti-NAMITE-X coating for extended tool life and heat resistance, and a web-thinned geometry that improves chip evacuation. The overall length is 3.58 inches (91.00 mm) with a 2.09-inch (53.00 mm) spiral flute length. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance professionals working with hardened steels, stainless, cast iron, and other difficult-to-machine materials.
The SGS 56446 is built for precision drilling applications in metalworking environments where carbide rigidity and coating performance are required. It fits standard CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld drilling equipment with appropriate collets or chucks. The straight-cylindrical shank (0.39 inches / 8.00 mm diameter) mates with standard toolholders. With a maximum drilling depth of 0.91 inches (23.00 mm) and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit is appropriate for through-holes and shallow blind holes in production and job-shop settings.
Designed as a high-performance OEM-style jobber drill in Series 142P, compatible with standard straight-shank toolholders and collet chucks accepting a 0.39-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-crib personnel familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the toolholder or collet and verify runout before operation, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to side-loading. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm coolant supply pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the application before starting the spindle. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and remove from service at the first sign of chipping or edge wear.
