The SGS 56240 is a straight-flute drill bit engineered for precision drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from solid micrograin carbide and finished with an AlTiN coating, it delivers extended tool life in high-heat cutting environments. The bit is sized at wire gauge number 31, equal to 0.1200 inches in diameter, with a 140-degree standard point for reduced thrust and improved centering on entry. The two-flute, right-hand cutting geometry is web-thinned to lower cutting forces. Flute length is 0.875 inches and overall length is 1.875 inches. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working with tight-tolerance bore applications.
The SGS 56240 is designed for drilling cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel workpieces where a standard high-speed steel bit would wear prematurely. The straight-flute design makes it particularly effective in materials that tend to grab or pull with spiral flutes, such as brittle cast iron. With a 1-inch shank length and a shank diameter of 0.1200 inches, it mounts directly in standard drill chucks and collet holders used in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 0.700 inches, which corresponds to approximately 45/64 inches. Series 106 identifies the product line within the SGS catalog.

Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or trained technicians familiar with cutting tool setup and speeds-and-feeds selection. Secure the shank fully in a collet or chuck before operation and confirm runout is within acceptable limits for the tolerance class required. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 0.700 inches in a single pass without adequate chip clearing. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so external coolant or dry cutting with appropriate feed rates is required to manage heat buildup.
