The SGS 56105 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, this two-flute bit features a 140-degree standard point angle with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation at entry. The micrograin carbide construction maintains edge integrity when cutting cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel. At 5/64 inch (0.0781 inch decimal) diameter with a bright, uncoated finish, it is suited for applications where coating buildup in the flute would compromise hole quality. A licensed machinist or tool-and-die technician is the primary installer for this type of cutting tool.
This drill bit fits production and maintenance machining operations where tight tolerances are required in hard or abrasive workpiece materials. The Series 106 designation places it within SGS's straight-flute carbide line, optimized for materials that cause conventional twist-flute geometry to deflect or chatter. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel. Secondary applications include other hardened materials where micrograin carbide tooling is specified. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports controlled chip flow across a maximum drilling depth of 0.547 inches.
Designed for use in ferrous and hardened workpiece materials including cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel as stated by the manufacturer. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron, hardened steel, and steel; secondary workpiece materials include hardened materials.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists or qualified tooling technicians using compatible CNC or manual drill press equipment. Ensure the spindle and collet or chuck are properly secured before operation and that spindle speed and feed rate are set per the material and tool diameter specifications for carbide tooling. Do not use this bit on rotating workpiece setups without verifying runout tolerance. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping before each use, as solid carbide is brittle under lateral loading.
