The SGS 56044 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in hard and demanding materials. Built from micrograin carbide with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 140-degree point angle with web thinning for improved centering and reduced thrust. The bit measures 0.0860 inches in diameter, matching wire size 44, with a 0.75-inch flute length and an overall length of 1.75 inches. It cuts right-hand with a standard point and two flutes, making it well-suited for machinists, toolmakers, and CNC operators working in tight-tolerance production environments where dimensional accuracy is critical.
This drill bit is intended for use on cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel stock, as well as other hardened materials. It conforms to DIN 6539 standards, making it appropriate for precision machining applications in both job-shop and production settings. Its compact overall length and straight-flute geometry make it particularly effective in materials that do not produce long, curled chips, such as cast iron and brittle hardened alloys. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual milling machines where small-diameter, tight-tolerance holes are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit for applications requiring wire gauge size 44 at 0.0860 inches diameter, conforming to DIN 6539 specifications. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, hardened steel, and steel. Secondary application covers hardened materials.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling professionals familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank firmly in a collet or chuck rated for the 0.0860-inch shank diameter before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle and susceptible to breakage from side loading, misalignment, or excessive feed rates — ensure the spindle and workpiece are properly aligned before drilling. Do not use this bit for materials outside its rated workpiece material range, as doing so may cause premature tool failure.
