The SGS 56042 is a straight-flute drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. It is manufactured from micrograin solid carbide and left uncoated, providing dimensional stability and wear resistance without added coating thickness. The bit measures 0.0935 inches in diameter, with a 140-degree standard point angle that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. A web-thinned geometry further lowers cutting resistance at the chisel edge. This bit is sized to wire gauge Number 42 and is suited for production and maintenance drilling operations performed by machinists and tool and die technicians.
This drill bit is built for use in cast iron, steel, and hardened steel workpieces. Its solid carbide construction makes it appropriate for high-speed drilling on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and precision hand-held equipment where carbide rigidity can be maintained. The straight-flute design is particularly well-suited to brittle materials such as cast iron, where a spiral flute could cause chipping or grab. The short flute length of 0.75 inches supports rigidity in tight setups and blind-hole applications. It conforms to DIN 6539 standards, making it compatible with metric-standard tooling environments as well.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use carbide drill bit for applications requiring a wire gauge Number 42 diameter in cast iron, steel, and hardened steel. Suitable for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.0935-inch shank diameter.
Solid carbide drill bits require rigid machine setups to prevent bit deflection or fracture — avoid use in handheld cordless drivers or non-rigid fixtures. Ensure the spindle and chuck are clean and free of runout before seating the bit. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use appropriate surface-applied cutting fluid for ferrous materials. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable machine guarding standards when operating drilling equipment.
