The SGS 56012 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, it features a 140-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The cutting diameter is 0.1890 inches (No. 12 wire size, 4.80 mm), with a shank diameter of 0.1890 inches. Flute length is 1.125 inches and overall length is 2.1875 inches. The bright, uncoated finish on micrograin carbide substrate maintains sharp cutting edges in demanding applications. This bit is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with production drilling equipment.
This drill bit is rated for primary use in cast iron, hardened steel, and steel workpieces, with secondary capability in hardened materials. Straight-flute geometry makes it well suited for drilling brittle materials where a conventional spiral flute would cause chipping or grab. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines where controlled, low-vibration entry is required. The two-flute, right-hand cutting configuration is standard for these applications. Maximum drilling depth is 0.906 inches, making it appropriate for through-hole and moderate blind-hole work in production or toolroom environments.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.1890-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron, hardened steel, and steel; rated for secondary use in hardened materials per supplier specification.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a precision drill chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Do not use this bit in hammer-drill or percussion mode. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material unless running dry per shop practice, and do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 0.906 inches per pass without retracting to clear chips.
