The SGS 51780 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Built to Series 135 specifications, it features a 145-degree drill point angle, a web-thinned tapered web for easier penetration, and an AlTiN coating that extends tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The bit measures 0.2090 inches in diameter (No. 4 wire size) with a 2-5/8 inch overall length and a 1-inch flute length. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute and straight cylindrical shank, this bit suits CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual operations requiring tight tolerances.
This drill bit is suited for machining alloy steels and titanium, where solid carbide construction and AlTiN coating provide the heat resistance and edge retention needed to hold tolerances. The screw machine length format — shorter than jobber length — offers greater rigidity and reduced deflection, making it the preferred choice in production environments and for drilling into hard or abrasive workpiece materials. Machinists, tool and die makers, and precision machine shop technicians are the primary users of this bit. It performs well in both through-hole and blind-hole applications within its maximum drilling depth of 0.8281 inches.
Designed as a high-performance replacement drill bit for production machining of alloy steels and titanium; fits any standard drill chuck or collet holder accepting a straight cylindrical shank at 0.2090 inches diameter.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with proper speeds, feeds, and workholding practices for solid carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a collet or chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits before drilling. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use external flood coolant or cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material when drilling alloy steel or titanium. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to damage from improper handling or interrupted cuts.
