The SGS 51762 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. It carries a wire gauge size of 26, equivalent to 0.1470 inches (3.73 mm) in diameter, and features a 145-degree split-point geometry with web thinning for fast, accurate entry and reduced thrust. The Ti-NAMITE-A AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and extends tool life in abrasive and high-temperature cutting environments. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a 2-flute regular spiral flute design, this drill is built for precision in steel, stainless steel, and high-temp alloy applications.
This drill bit is suited for machining operations on ferrous metals and exotic alloys where tool wear and heat buildup are primary concerns. The straight shank with a 0.25-inch diameter allows direct chucking in standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held equipment with compatible collets or chucks. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 0.75-inch flute length make it appropriate for short-to-medium depth hole production in production shop and maintenance environments. A tapered web configuration contributes to chip evacuation efficiency during cutting.
Designed for drilling steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys. Part of the SGS Series 135 jobber drill line. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.25-inch straight shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Solid carbide drills are brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without adequate setup rigidity, or hand-feeding at variable rates that could cause chipping or fracture. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before drilling. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed rates appropriate to the workpiece material and hole depth.
