The SGS 51589 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built to Series 135 specifications, it features a 145-degree split point with web thinning for self-centering entry and reduced thrust. The AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A) coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in abrasive and heat-generating applications. At 3.25 inches overall length with a 1.75-inch flute length, this bit is sized for standard jobber-length work. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.25 inches in diameter, allowing use in standard drill chucks and collet holders. It is sold individually.
This drill bit is engineered for cutting titanium, temperature-resistant alloys, and other hard-to-machine materials commonly encountered in aerospace, defense, and precision machining environments. The regular spiral flute geometry and right-hand cut promote chip evacuation in deep-hole applications. Maximum drilling depth reaches 1-37/64 inches. With a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, it handles moderate depth holes without excessive deflection. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC machining centers, drill presses, or manual mills will find this bit suited to production and maintenance drilling in tough alloys.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and milling machines equipped with standard drill chucks or collet holders accepting a 0.25-inch straight shank. Primary workpiece materials are titanium and temperature-resistant alloys. Part of the SGS Series 135 high-performance drill bit line.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling practices. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck before operation and verify runout before cutting. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in hand-held drill applications or where lateral loading is expected. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate when drilling titanium and high-temp alloys, as excessive feed or interrupted cuts can cause chipping or breakage.
