The SGS 51331 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials including alloy steels and titanium. Built from solid carbide with a Ti-NAMITE-A AlTiN coating, this bit handles elevated cutting temperatures and abrasive workpieces that would degrade high-speed steel tooling. The 145-degree notched point reduces thrust and self-centers on entry, making it well suited for production drilling without a pilot hole. At 2.5 inches overall length, the screw machine format provides rigidity in short-reach setups. The straight shank measures 0.2500 inches in diameter and seats directly in standard drill chucks or collet holders.
This bit is used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines processing alloy steel and titanium components. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry promote chip evacuation in these chip-stringy materials. A web-thinned, tapered web configuration lowers cutting resistance at the drill tip. Typical applications include aerospace, tooling, and precision parts manufacturing where tight hole tolerances are required. The drill produces hole diameters in the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch range and holds a diameter tolerance of plus 0.0001 to plus 0.0005 inches.
Designed for drilling alloy steel and titanium workpieces. Fits standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.2500-inch straight shank. Part of SGS Series 135 screw machine length carbide drill bits.
Solid carbide tooling is brittle — secure the workpiece fully before drilling to prevent bit deflection or breakage. Verify the chuck or collet is clean and undamaged before seating the straight shank. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material even though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Machining professionals should follow applicable shop safety standards and machine-specific lockout procedures before tool changes.
